Measurement of activation cross sections producing short-lived nuclei
in the energy range of 2 - 3 MeV with pulsed neutron beam
Abstract

We developed a measuring method of activation cross sections producing short-lived nuclei with pulsed neutron beam.
This method is useful for measurements of activation cross section producing short-lived nuclei with half-lives less than several seconds. Additionally, there is no interfering prompt gamma ray that has the same energy of interest and we can measure samples with low background compared with using continuous neutron beam.
 We measured eight (n, n') reaction cross sections (77Se, 79Br, 89Y, 90Zr, 107Ag, 109Ag, 137Ba, 197Au) with pulsed neutron beam. Those half-lives are between 0.8 seconds and 2.6 minuets.
